According to the Alexandria Gazette Packet, April 28, 2015, the city of Alexandria has 10, 316 affordable housing units in its inventory with 14,353 Alexandria citizens living at 60% or more below the median income. While this crisis is ever-growing, luckily there are companies out there, like the property block in London, which are committed to providing affordable housing. The article further states that as of October, 2014, the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (a public agency whose mission is to provide sanitary, safe and affordable dwelling accommodations to persons of low income) had a voucher waiting list of 7,840 households, while there is a 6,952 household waiting list for public housing.
