In the words of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’.”
On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20th, Community Lodgings welcomed three groups of volunteers who were ready to serve. Throughout the day, students and parents from Burgundy Farm Country Day School, members of The Alexandria City Council, and volunteers from Excella all completed various tasks to complete one common goal: to help families in need. Take a look at what our volunteers accomplished!
Burgundy Farm Country Day School
In observance of MLK day, Burgundy Farm participates in an annual service day where students volunteer for various service projects in the area. This year, the school selected Community Lodgings as a site for one of their service projects and we couldn’t be more excited! The students were extremely helpful with cleaning up our New Brookside Learning Center!
Alexandria City Council
We also welcomed the Alexandria City Council who selected Community Lodgings as a site to do their second annual MLK service day project! Mayor Wilson and the Council assembled needed emergency kits for our clients in the Transitional Housing Program. They also helped sort donations of supplies for the children in our Youth Education Program to prepare the students for the next school year. Executive Director, Lynn Thomas did an interview with WDVM about the City Council’s visit. You can find the article and video here!
Excella
Our hardworking volunteers from Excella did an amazing job assembling and installing shelving to create our food pantry! They also repainted our conference room and the bathroom in our Fifer Family Learning Center. Thank you to Volunteer Arlington for organizing Excella’s Day of ImpaX and for making all of this possible!
Thank you to all of the volunteers who spent MLK Day with us in honor of Dr. King’s legacy of service to those in need. Take a look at the gallery below to see more photos of the service projects!
