This month, we’re excited to spotlight Cinthia, one of our incredible George Mason University interns, who has been making a meaningful impact in our Youth Education Program.
What inspired you to volunteer with the Youth Education Program at Community Lodgings?
“I was inspired to volunteer at Community Lodgings because I wanted to work directly with students and families who share the same ethnic background as me. Being Salvadoran, I wanted to support the Hispanic community and was inspired by Community Lodging’s mission and values to support youth and young adults from elementary to high school.”
What has been the most rewarding or memorable moment you’ve had with the students?
“The most rewarding moments I’ve had with the students at the Youth Education Program at Community Lodgings is being able to build rapport with each student and witnessing their growth academically and emotionally.”
What have you learned from the students or this experience that you didn’t expect?
“One thing I didn’t expect to learn from this experience is how resilient the students at the Youth Education Program at Community Lodgings are. Their determination and positive attitudes made my time volunteering at Community Lodgings rewarding.”
How has volunteering here influenced your goals, studies, or future career plans?
“While volunteering at Community Lodgings I quickly saw the importance and impact of supporting the community. In my future career goals, I would love to continue working with the youth population and provide community support.”
In three words, how would you describe your experience volunteering with the Youth Education Program?
Rewarding. Joyful. Memorable.
Thank you, Cinthia, for your dedication to our program. We appreciate you!
