What’s it like to be a Community Lodgings mentor? Find out by watching this video from the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership!
We know that children are our future and we believe that education is a key toward a child attaining self-sufficiency as an adult. To that end, our staff and volunteers provide year-round academic support to children in grades 1 – 12 living in the Arlandria-Chirilagua community. Daily, nutritious meals are part of the program. Our students receive an average of 350 hours of academic and general support annually.
Our after-school program is partnered with the Alexandria City Public School as a Family and Community Engagement (FACE) site so our after-school activities correspond with what our children learn that day in school. Our program runs from Monday – Thursday afternoons during the school year.
Additionally our summer program offers math, reading and language arts lessons, daily journaling, computer time, arts and crafts, weekly field trips, recreational activities (swimming, running clubs) and gardening.
Finally, our boys’ and girls’ mentoring programs, available to youth in grades 7-12, offers a safe, supportive, creative and fun environment with carefully screened adults who serve as a role models and guides. Each group meets on Monday evening and also plans group activities once or twice a month. Students learn life skills, conflict resolution and boundary-setting among other skills.
We also offer evening computer classes, English language learning and other activities to our local families in the evenings.
