Join us as we help Open Doors to Self-Care during these hectic times. Yoga instructor and Licensed Massage Therapist, Karen Kuzminsky, will conduct a series of three virtual yoga and meditation sessions via Facebook Live and we invite the entire Community Lodgings family – volunteers, staff, residents, and supporters – to join us as we take a little time to reset body and mind.
Participation in this no cost event is as simple as watching our Facebook page or our website at 5:30pm on the following dates:

We will start with basic breath exercises and slowly warm up with gentle movements that follow our breath.
Yoga poses both seated standing and lying on the floor will be explored, using basic yoga principles of breath and awareness. Modifications for an extra gentle experience will be offered.
The class will end with a few minutes of relaxation.
Suggested props for participants include:
Yoga mat, blanket or yoga blocks
August 12 Live Yoga Session
August 19 Yin Yoga for All Levels
This 50 minute class will deep dive into the wonderful meditative experience of Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is the 2000 year old practice of reaching into the body to stimulate our life energy, or Chi, which flows through the meridians of connective tissue. This reaching in is done through poses which are held longer so that connective tissue is accessed. All poses will be on the floor often using blankets for support and focus on our lower body where there is an abundance of connective tissue.
Some of the numerous benefits of Yin Yoga include: increased circulation, improved flexibility, calm and balanced mind and body, reduces stress and anxiety, releases tightly held fascia, encourages deep relaxation and improves joint mobility.
Class will focus on entering and exiting poses slowly, relaxing deeply in a pose for several minutes, and noticing the contemplative nature of a yin practice.
Suggested props include a yoga mat and 3 or 4 rolled blankets or yoga blocks.
August 19 Live Yoga Session
August 26 Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a practice of deep relaxation that addresses emotional wellness.
This is a wonderful practice for those who may be intimidated by doing yoga poses or a sitting meditation practice. Yoga Nidra is done by lying on the floor with the comfort and support of blankets. For those unable to be on the floor, the practice can be done on a bed.
In this 50 minute class we will take time getting very comfortable on the floor with plenty of blankets.
There will be offered several minutes of self- massage to become grounded and ready for relaxation.
Next we connect with our individual heartfelt desire and set an intention.
The instructor will guide students in finding their inner resource, which is a place within security and calm.
There is a guided relaxation in which we travel throughout our body much like a slow motion body scan with deep breath awareness.
Suggested props include a yoga mat and 3 or 4 comfortable blankets.

Why do we love yoga?
“The practice of yoga brings us out of our thinking minds and into our feeling bodies. “
– Karen Kuzminsky, yoga instructor
“When every day seems to be the same, yoga gives me the chance to get out of my head space and reset body and mind. 2020 is the year of yoga for me!”
– Julie Cupp, Chair of the Community Lodgings Development Committee
Karen Kuzminsky also says, “I have a heart centered approach to yoga. When we can have our attention within our hearts, we are able to come to a place of peace.”
