Building bridges between resources and needs to inspire and support kids
Alexandria should be proud to have a place like Community Lodgings in their neighborhood. It represents what can happen when dedicated people collaborate to solve problems. Community Lodgings not only addresses housing needs, they go a step further to help families become independent through financial training and counseling. This holistic approach includes quality afterschool care to help the children academically.
I had the pleasure of touring the afterschool rooms when I was dropping off books for their on site library. Community Lodgings wants to have engaging literature available to their students to inspire kids’ literacy journey and provide book choice. The staff was very friendly and they showed me around the sunny, bright colored rooms. It was the kind of place I would be happy to send my own kids. I was thrilled to hear children received a nutritious meal every night too.
I really appreciate the staff’s openness to bringing in extra resources to support the kids. The program director was eager to connect with a local teacher to learn more about supporting their students’ mathematics. They brought in a toy company to learn more about elevating thinking by playing games. When I offered to bring books, my contributions were welcomed.
Community Lodgings recognizes the kindness and generosity of the Alexandria community. They build a bridge from that to create a space where people can create a better life for themselves and give their children a new future.
