Weekender Program

We are excited to launch our Weekender Food Program!

What is the Weekender Food Program?

Every Friday, nutritious food is provided for children in our program for the weekend. Our Youth Education Program serves 90 students in first through twelfth grades, all of whom are food insecure and qualify for free or reduced-priced meals at school. It is not guaranteed that they will have nourishing meals at home over the weekend, especially if they depend on school lunches for their daily meals. The families we serve were already struggling to put food on the table, and the past two years have made it even more difficult because of wide-spread job loss due to the pandemic and resulting economic downturn.

Thanks to the support from Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation and Restoration City Church, we are able to ensure each student has the food they need for their growth and development. Not only does this support better health outcomes now, but also into young adulthood all while promoting a healthy lifestyle. When our students receive proper nutrition, they are not burdened by food insecurity and can focus on school and enrichment activities. As these past two years have been especially challenging for the students we serve, having enough to eat means that they can stay on track and make up for lost learning.

How to Support

If you are interested in supporting our efforts to help combat food insecurity for the children we serve and giving them a chance to grow and thrive, then please consider donating to the program. Funds will allow us to purchase the supplies and food needed to feed the students.
