Since 2012, Jill has been a dedicated and compassionate volunteer in our Youth Education Program. She began by tutoring students and helping in our administrative office five days a week with mailings, organizing holiday gifts, and other essential tasks. After a pause during COVID, Jill returned to tutoring — and this year increased her commitment to seven hours per week, always willing to step in when we are short-staffed.
Jill’s reliability is extraordinary! At this year’s Holiday Store, she was the first to arrive and the last to leave, contributing more hours than any other volunteer. She helps organize our program space, supports staff wherever needed, and even used her personal contacts to save a tree dedicated to a beloved community member. When Jill sees a need, she fills it.
Most importantly, our students adore her. Many of the children we serve face significant challenges and begin school already behind academically. Jill’s patience, consistency, and encouragement help them build confidence and succeed. They run to hug her when she walks in the door — a testament to the trust and love she’s built over the years.
Jill is as valuable as any member of our paid staff. Her long-standing commitment to Alexandria’s youth is inspiring, and we are incredibly grateful for her.
Jill, thank you for your time, your heart, and the lasting difference you make every single week.
